Meade County offers a different kind of metro to residents and businesses alike. With a unique blend of agricultural, military and manufacturing backgrounds as well as our tight communities, we offer an extraordinary hometown feel, all within a short drive of a major city.
Meade County has a population of nearly 28,000, and as a part of the Elizabethtown Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA), along with Hardin and LaRue counties, has recently been named the fastest growing area for startups in the country. And our central location — with easy access to major transportation routes to the north, south, east and west — means we are perfectly situated to help businesses grow and expand.
Our excellent K-12 school district is top rated, and provides several educational and athletic extra-curricular activities for students throughout the year. In addition, our county has multiple opportunities for advanced training and development both during and after high school, including the recent partnership between Meade County Schools and Elizabethtown Community and Technical College to expand educational programs at Meade County Area Technology Center. This allows our community members to have access to the most innovative technical training in Kentucky.
Residents can utilize further post-secondary opportunities close to home with ECTC and Western Kentucky University’s extended campus in nearby Elizabethtown, as well as the many educational options available a short drive north to Louisville.
Meade County also has exceptional outdoor recreation opportunities, including hiking and fishing at Otter Creek Outdoor Recreation Area, running and biking at Buttermilk Falls Trail and scenic Brandenburg Riverfront Park with playgrounds, picnic pavilions and a river walk. The Meade Activity Center houses River Trace Golf, tennis courts and two outdoor pools, and offers various athletic programs to youth and adults, including gymnastics, summer camps and zumba.
Our small, close communities contain several locally owned shops, groceries and restaurants with honest customer service and a friendly atmosphere.
All of this, combined with Meade County’s low cost of living and close proximity to metropolitan areas mean we have positioned ourselves as an up and coming leader in economic development.
